Rtehinve to the City of Lafayette, and to the Police Jury of the Parish of
Jeffer-on.
Swe-roni 1. Be it enacted by the Senate and House of Re-
presentatives of the State of Lotuiana in General Assembly

Parish of Jeffer* of the City of Lutyette, shall cease and determine ; and thut
son.         the President and Board of Council of said city shall be subio-
gated to, and shall exercise within anid city, in addition to their
present authority, all the powers heretufore vested in the said
Police Jury.
Ssc. 2. Be i futriher enacted, &c., That it shall be the duty

pairing, and supporting of a public jail, and tor the rent of the
court-house of said Parish,iccording to existing fuws ; that -he
said amount shall U3 ascertained Ly the vtes of two-thirds of
the numbers of the members of the Police Jury. And in taking
said votes, the ayes and nays shall be given, and shall be regis-
tered on the journal of said jury. That the resolution thus
passed shall specify the amount due as aforesuid,,and the items
composing the same ; and after Leing duly certified, the said
resolution -hall be transmitted to the President and Board of
Council of the City of Laftyette, who shall thereupon make an
appropriati'n to pay the same into the Parish Treasury out ot
any funds of said city.

Sr.c. 4. Be it further enacted, 4c., That the City Council of
the said city shall have authority to lay and collect a tax, .vo
Tax which the members of Fnid Board corinstnting, not exceeding ten thousand

andMcolm   ' within he limit of the said city (olterving equality in the as-
se.rment thereof) withut Ieing testiicted to the double of the
State tax, as provided in the first secti n of an act, entitled

approied February seventeenth, eighteen hunared and thirty-
