An Act
To provide for the purchase of an additional number of negroe for the
use of the State, to be employed on objects of internal improvements,
and for other purposes.
SECTION 1. Be it enacted by the Senate and House of
Representatives of the State of Louisiana, in General Assenb ly
convened, I'hnt the Governor be authorised to appoint, by and
with the consent of the Senate. two or more conidential com-
missioneus, residents of the State, who shall be authorised to
purchase, for the use of the State of Lutiisiana, two hundred
able bodied negro men, none of which to exceed thirty years
of age, of good character, and healthy; and that the treasurcr
be authorised to advance, for the purchase of said slaves., at the
rate of four hundred dollars on each slave so intended to be pur-
chased, if to be bought out of the State, and the I aance of their
price to be paid on the delivery of said negrocs to the Board of
Commissioners of Internal Improvements.

Commission-   SECT. 3. Be it furthc* enacted, kc. That whenever it may
em  to give be necessary to advance any money to any commissioner, as
bond'       above stated, such commissioner or conhnislioners shall give
bond and approved security, for the faithful appropriation of the
money so advanced, to the treasurer of the State: And it is
hereby provided, and ordered, that the treasurer of the State
shall advance any money in the treasury, not otherwise appro-
priated, for the purchase of two hundred negro men, as above

receipt to the commissioners for the same, and thereupon the

slaves so purchased by said commissioners, die before they are
delivered to the Board of Public Works, then it shall be the
duty of said commissioners to aduce prof to the Board of Pub-
lic Works that they were such as this act contemplates, when
the loss of said slave or slaves shall be thnt of the State.

purchased, as full compensation of their services, and that the
