AN ACT
To amend the provisions of the Black Code relative to the trial nf Slavcs
SECT. 1. Be it enacted by the Senate and House of Re-
Slac, how presentatives of the State of Louisiana, in General Assembly
tried.    convened, That hereafter such slaves as may he accused of
capital crimes or crines not capital, shall be tried by a tri-
bunal composed of the parish judge and six inhabitants free-
holders iM said parish, chosen and convoked by said judge,
and that in case of absence or other impediment of said
judge, the duties imposed on him shall be discharged by
the senior justice of the peace, and in case of absence or
any other impediment whatsoever on the part of said senior
justice, by any other justice of the peace of said parish.
Within wliat  SECT. 2. AuIl be it fnrtler enacted, That in case the
time,     accused slaves should not be tried within the three days
after their being arrested, from any just cause, their judg-
ment rhall take place as soon as possible, after the expira-
tion of said tine.

To approprialc a cerlain suanfor the use of the College of Reagides.
SECT. 1. Be it enacted by the Sente and Hou c of Repre-
sentatives of tlit, Svae (f Louisiana, in Genc! al Assembly
convened, That the sum of six hundred dollars he and the
same is hereby appropriated for the use of the College of
Rapides for one year, commencing from the first day of
March eighteen hundred and twenty-live, and ending the
first lay of March eighteen hundred and twentyo-six, to be
paid by the Treasirer of the state, semi-annually, out of any
money Iot otherwise appropriated, on the warrant of the
president oftihe board of trustees of said College,
