SECT. 6. And be it further enacted; That the said corporation

longing to the said congregation for any other purposes than the

or the promotion of education.

AN ACT to authorise the maiumission of certain slaves,
Whereas Marie Marthe, a free woman of colour, of the parish of
West Baton Rouge,has presented a petition to the Legislature pray-
ing to be authorised to manumit two of her children one named Te-
enceof twenty six years of age, and the other named Valery oftwen-
tyfour years of age, both being her own property and begotten whilst
the said Marie Marthe was in the bonds of slavery; and whereas
in conformity with the existing laws of this state, slaves cannot be
manumitted until they have attained a certain age, Therefore,
SECTION 1. Be it enacted by the Senate and Ioruse of Represen-P

cildren.  West Baton Rouge be and she is hereby authorized to manumit
her two children aforesaid, to wit: T6rence aged twenty six years
and Valery twenty four years, all the requisites prescribed by the
existing laws being complied with, except however what may re-
late to the age to Which masters are permitted to manumit their
slaves.
brinl2e   SECT. 2. And be it further enacted; That the judge and sheriff
of the parish of West Baton Rouge, be and they are hereby author-
ized to fulfil and cause to be fulfilled all the forialities in such
case prescribed by the existing laws, in the same manner as if the
said two before mentioned slaves had attained the age. required.
