1819.     .A1N ACT for the relief of the Managers of the Hancock College Lottery.
Whereas, the petition of the managers of the Hancock College
Lottery to the general assembly of this State dotli represent that
unaware of contravening any law of this State, the petitioners in
conformity with an act of the Legislature of the State of Missis-
'Preamble,  sippi, establishing the Hancock Colege at the Bay of St. Louis,
and autherizing a Lottery for the benefit of said college, did pro-
ceed, in the city of New-Orleans, to draw three classes of the
said lottery, and that as soon as they were'apprized of the exist-
ence of a law of this State prohibiting all lotteries not authorized
by the legislature, they suspended their. proceedings in the said
Hancock College Lottery;
And whereas the encouragement of learningis an object of the
highest importance, and should ever hold a distinguishbae claim
on legislative generosity:
SEc. 1. Be it enacted by the Senate and House of Represen-
tatives of the State of Louisiana in general assembly convened;
D    nr O  That the managers of the above mentioned bottery be, ad they
zed,        are hereby authorized to continue and complete the drawing of
the same in any part of this State according to the act of the
legislature of Mississippi, passed, in 1817, by which Hancock
College was created, and a lottery authorized for the benefit
thereof.
SEc. 2. .dnd be it further enacted, That the proceedings of the
Fornfer pro- said managers heretofore had in r6gard to the aforesaid lottery,
l  ag e are hereby recognized to be legal as far as relates to the Statejof
Louisiana: Provided, however, nothing herein contained shall be
so construed as to bar them against prosecution for any fraud or
misdemeanors, and that this act shall be in force from and after
the passage thereof.

AN ACT to dispense Francis Poiret with the time prescribed by law for
obtaining the age of majority.
Be it enacted by the Senate and House of Representa-
tires of the State of Louisiana in general assembly convened;
That I rancis Poiret, son of Florentin Poiret, an inhabitant of thg-
parish of St. Landry and citizen of this State, aged twenty years,
be, and he is hereby from this day authorized to administer by
himself his estate, and to perform all the civil acts that are done
or may be done by such persons as have attained the age pre,
scribed by law for the accomplishment of their majority.
