in the prairie of Avoyalles, bounded on one side by lands of Pierre
Lemoine, and, on the other side by lands of Pierre Bordelon, which
said tract of land belongs to the said congregation, and after reser-
ving so much as may be necessary of said land for the use of said
church, the balance Fhall be placed under the entire control and di,
rection of the church wardens for the benefit of said congregation,
as specified in section fi'st of this act.
Sec. 7. Andbe it further enacted, That such if the white inha-
bitants residing within the limits assigned to sa d congregation, as
shall not within the course of the present year, subscribe for the
purpose of supplying funds for the eiection and ornament of said
church and other edifices belonging thereto, shall not enjoy the be.
nefit of this corporation.
Sec. 8. And be it further enacted, That every year, immediately
or at least a few days after the election of two new church ward-
ens, who agreeably to the provisions of this act, are to fill the va-
cancies of those going out of office, it shall be the duty of the four
church wardens who have remained in office, to deliver to the two
new ones an account' of their administration for the year last pass.

Sec. 9. And be it further enacted, That the church wardens and
other officers, who are ot may be appointed by virtue of ;his act,
shall, before they enter on the duties of their respective offices take
the ordinary oath of office.

Whereas doubts have arisen on the construction of the act be-
fore mentioned, arising from an incongruity in the English and
French texts of the sevenh section of said act.
Bit enacted by the senate and House of Representatives of the
state of Loiuisiana in general assembly convened, That if any slave,
freenegro, mulatto, indian or mustee, shall attempt to commit a
rape on the body of any white woman or girl, the said slave, free
negro, mulatto, indian or mustee, shall on conviction thereof, suf-
fer death.
