1817.    States for the western district of the territory of Orleans,
marked A, number seventeen hundred and eighty-seven;
thence by a right line to the head of the bayou queue de
Tortue; thence down the said bayou to the river Nenen.

AN, ACT to amend .the act entitled: I an act to establish in and for
the city of New-Orleans, its suburbs incorporated and other places,
justices of the peace in and for each and every section thereof, and
to create a court to decide on the appeals from their judgments and
for otl~r purposes.
Section. 1. Be it enacted by the Senate and House of Re-
presentatives of the State of Louisiana in General Assembly
JurigieKtion no convened, That from and after the passae of this act,
t 0onge liited the justices of the peace in and for the city of New-Orlans,
shall have, in civil as well as criminal matters, j urisdiction
throughout the whole extent of the said city, and that the
ninth section of the act entitled:  an act to establish in and
for the city of New-Orleans, its suburbs incorporated and
other places, justices of the peace in and for each and
every section thereof, and to create a court to decide on
the appeals from their judgments, and for other purposes,
be and the same is hereby repealed, so far as it limits
the jurisdiction of each justice of the peace to the section
for which he shall have been appointed.
Sect 2. And be it further enacted, That whenever a
Debtors about creditor shall declare on oath before any justice of the
risb, ho pro- peace of this state, that any person who is indebted to him
ceeded egainst. in a sum not exceeding the jurisdiction of the said justice, is
about permanently to depart from the parish wherein he
resides, or conceals himself to avoid the payment of his
debt, and he possesses no property to be seized, the said
justice of the peace shall issue a warrant of arrest against the
paid debtor, in order that he may be brought before him,
and in case the said debtor shall not give bond with security,
ponditioned that in case he shall be cast in the said suit, he will
