to 4uty.  repiresentatives of the atate of 1.aisiana, in general
assembly convened, That every able bodied whiite
37ale citizen of this ptate,. o of any of the Unlitqed
States residing in this state, who is of the age of six-
tpeit years and under the age of fifty years, (except as
is herein after excepted) shall be enrolled by the
commanding officer of the company within the bonm1s
of which he may reside, and likewise all those wqn
nwy from time to time arrive at the age of sixteen
years, or who being above the age of sixteen and un-
der lifty yeavs, uniy remove within the limits of his
company and he shall witholnt delay notify such cii-
zen of his enrt)llmcet by some non.commissioned of-
ficer of his company, and in all cases of' doubts res-
pecting the age of any citizen enrolled or itenled to
be enrolled, the party questioned .shall prove his ago
to the satilfactioni of the coniuandinig officer of his
'onmpany within rhe bounds of which he may reside,
Proviso. provided however, that in all the returns to be made
under the provisions of this act to the adjutant gene-
ral, those froit sixteen to Cighteen, and from forty
five to fifty years of age shall be clearly designated,
and it shall be the duty of the saidadjp.apunt generai,
in making a return under any act of congress to the
president of the U. S. or the Iecretary at war, to re-
turn only thoe subject to do militia duty conformably
to the provision;s of such acts of conlgress.
