.CHAPTER XXXII.
AN ACT
Establishing the mode in which parish judges can
enfranchise their slaves, and accept testamentary
executorships, tutorships and curatorships, regu.
larly devolving upon then.
SEC. 1. Be it enacted by the Legislative Coin.
cil and House of'Representatives of the Territory
of Orleans, in general assembly convened, That
Tirhenevei a parish judge shall wish to enfranchise
any of his slaves, he shall fulfil, beforc one of the
judges of the superior court, all the formalities
which other individuals are bound to execute be-
fore the parish judges by the Act to regulate
the conditions and forms of the emancipation of
slaves. provided no opposition shall be made
to such enfranchisement; and in case bf such
opposition the said judge shall decide on its me-
rits.
SEC. 2. And be it further enacted, That when.
ever a parish judge shall wish to accept a testa.
Mentary executorship, a tutorship or curatorship,
which shall have been regularly entrusted to him
in his own parish, he shall- apply to one of the
judges of the superior court for the confirmation
of such trust, and shall take the necessary oath,
and generally fulfil before him all the formalities
