Vhereas it is in evidence that the negro woman
Marie Rose, a slave to-Lewis de Feriet, has been
condemned to perpetual impri'sopment by the
judge and a jury of inhabitants of the parish of
.Orleans, at the suit of the Tcrritory, and that the
laws now in force have not provided for the com.
pe.nsation to he allowed to owners of slaves thus
tried and condemned.
Be it therefore enacted by the Legislative Coun.
cil and House of Representatives of the lerritory
of Orleans, in General Assembly convened, That
Lewis de Feriet, be and he is hereby authorized
to claim from the treasurer of the territory the es-
timated .value of said negro wonan, and that it
shall be the duty of the said treasurer to pay the
said value at the rate of five.hidred dollars, a-
gieeable to the estimation which has bein made
of the said slave.  Provided, that the said Lewis
de.Feriet shall pre ioisy iake aiid execute a
transfer and abandon of the said slave to the ter!-
ritory.
