An Act toexempt all persons over 45 years of age from patrol duty,
and to shorten the time of service of Patrol Companiesjrom six to three
months.
APPROVED, February 16th, 1856.
1. Sec. I. Be it enacted 4rc., That from and after the passage Exempt if
of this act, all persons over the age of forty-five years shall be ex- over 45;
empt from patrol duty.#
2. SEC. II. And be it father enacted, That from and after the ei
passage ofthis act, the time of service of Patrol Companies in this
State, shall be three instead of six months as is now fixed by law.
3. SEC. III. (Repeals conflicting laws.)
* By act of 1765, Cobb's Dig. p. 906, all persons between the age of sixteen and six-
ty were liable.

SEC. 1. Index to records to be made out.

An Act to provide for the preservation of the Public Records, and for
other purposes.
APPROVED, Feb. 28th, 1856.
1. SEc. I. Be it enacted, &c. That his Excellency the Governor
be and he is hereby authorised and required to appoint some fit and
proper person to make out a complete Index for the Colonial and
Head Rights Records of Lands, the same to be kept in the office ofCoIoniai and
the Secretary of State, and when said Index is completed in a satis- re t'ord
factory manner, to be judged of by the Governor, he shall draw his
warrant on the treasury for such an amount as may be agreed upon
as compensation for the work.
