Resacon and City.of Griffin iicorporated,
thereafter, all persons entitled to vote for members of the General
Assembly of this State, residing within the limits of said Town,
shall elect by ballot five other Commissioners,,who shall continue
in offico.one year and shall be re-eligible; said election shall be Elecon.
held by a Justice of the Peace and one free holder, or by two free
holders: Provided, that in the event of there being no election,. at
the time herein designated, the Commissioners then in office shall
so continue until their successors are elected ; which may be done May hold
at any time thereafter by said Commissioners or a majority ofor,
them, giving five days notice of the time of holding said election.
And be it farther enacted, That the jurisdiction of said Com-
missioners shall extend so as to include a distance of fine hundred Jurisicnon
yards in every direction from the Depot in said Town, and saidaudini.
Commissioners or a majority of them are hereby authorized to act
as Commissioners of all roads and streets in said Town, to the dis-
tance aforesaid.
And be it farther enacted, That said Commissioners or a major-
ity of then, shall have power to levy and collect a tax on all objects Taxec
in said Town, subject to taxation, to the amount of not more than
fifty per cent. on the general State Tax, for the nse of said incor-
poration, and that said tax when collected in such manner as may
L prescribed by said Commissioners or a majority of them, shall
he used for the use and benefit of said Town.
And be it farther enacted, That said Commissioners or a major-
ity of then, shall have power to appoint patrols in said Town, and patrols.
regulate their duty, to appoint overseers of the streets and regulate
the manner of working the same , and shall have power to tax all
shows and performances in said Town, for the purpose of gain, and
all itinerant traders, and shall have power to enforce the collection
of' taxes, lines and penalties in such manneri as they shall see pro-
per.
And be it ftrther enacted, That said Commissioners or a niajori-
ty of' then, may employ a Marshal for said Town, may hold meet-
ings as often as necessary, and that in all cases a majority of' said
Commissioners may hold meetings and transact any business that Quorm.

SEC. V1. And be it farther enacted, That all laws militating
against this Act, be and the same are hereby repealed.

ed to February 218t, 1850.
SECTION 1. Be it enacted, by the Senate and House of Represen-
tatives, of the State of Georgia, in General Assembly met, and it
is hereby enacted by the authority of the same, That the munici- cinof.
