the purchaser or purchasers from them shall be vested with
all the powers and privileges and subject to all the liabilities
specified in the act incorporating the Augusta Canal Com-
pany.
And be it further enacted, That the Jailor of the city of Au-
gusta shall hereafter pay over to the City Council of Augus-
ta all fees received and collected by him in his said olice
of Jailor, at such times as they may require by ordinunces,
and that his sureties shall be liable for the payment of the
same.

AN ACT to amend an act incorporating the city of Dalton
in lurray county, approved 29th December, 1847.
SECTION 1. Be it enacted by 'hC Senate and Rouse oJ']eie-
resentatives of the State of Georgia in General Assembly met,
and it is hereby enacted by the authority of the same, That from
and after the passage ofthis act, that the corporate limits of
said city of Dalton shall extend one mile from the Railroad
depot in said city, and the municipal authorities shall be the
Mayor and six members of Council, with such other officers
as shall hereafer he described.
SECTION 2. That on the first Saturday in April, eighteen
hundred and fifly, and on the first Saturdayin April in each
and every year thereafter, the inhabitants ot the city of Dal-
ton, who are entitled to vote for members of the General As-
sembly of this State, who have resided for six months imme-
diately preceing the election within the incorporate limits
of said city, unless absent therefrom on law ul business, and
who have paid all lawfil county and State taxes imposed, as
well as all city taxes hereafter legally and lawlully imposed,
and which they have had an opportunity of paying, shall
elect by ballot a layor and six members of Council, of indi-
viduals likewise inhabitants, who, upon accepting the office,
shall take and subscribe to the following oath, before some
lawful officer authorized to administer an oath: I, A. B., do
solemnly swear. or aflirm, that I will well and truly perform
the duties of' Mayor and member of' Council, for the city of
Dalton, by the adoption and enforcement of such measures
as to me appear conducive to the general welfare and per-
manent good of the city of Dalton. They shall convene the
first Tuesday after their election, and the said members of
Council and Mayor shall serve twelve months from their
election, and until their successors are elected and qualified,
unless vacated by removal or death.
SEcTION 3. And be it further enacted, That Edward H.
Edwards, L. W. Earnest and William J. Underwood, be
