AN ACT to prohibit from sale or gift, all printed or writ-
tel books, papers, pamphlets, vritillg paiper, ink, and all
other articles of stationery, of' any kind wiatsoever, to
any slave or fire person of color in this State; and to
pisliSh those who may violate the provisions of this act.
Sec'rioN 1. Be it enactul by the Scnate and House (y' Rep-
resontires of the State o Golgia in General Assembly met,
and it is h !((y cnctl by the authortly o ibesoime, That from
and after the Is.sing of this act, if any shop-keeper, store-
keeper, or nany other person or persons whatsoever, shall sell
to, give, barter, or in any \vise lirnis or allow to be furnished
by any person in his, her or their employment, any slave, ne-
1gro, or fe person of colo)r,a1y printed or written book, pamn-
philet, or other printed or writt ,n phublieation, writing paper,
ink, or other articles of' stationiry, for lis, her or their use,
or fin the purpose ofsae, without writterl or verbal permis-
sion from the owner, guardlio n, or other person authorized,
such person or persons so (.lding, shall upon conviction
thereof, pa.y a fine of' not less than teln dollars nor inore than
lift3y dollars for the first offence, and upon conviction for a
second ofhince be sulJect to fime and imprisonment in the
canonon* jail of the county at the discretion of the Court, not
to exceed sixty'days iminisonment and five hiundred dol-
lrs fine.
Stex. 2. And be it nuted, That all iaws and parts of laws
militating against this act, Ie, and are hereby repealed.
