:rcad or write ; and to repeal the act assented to the ninth
fecember, eightecn hundred and trenty-four, entitled
an act,'to repeal the law of eighteen hundred and seven-
teen, prohibiting the introduction of slaves into this state.
Whereas it has become highly ne cessary andi essential to
the ivelfare and safety of the good people of this state that
inerchatt vessels or ships coming by sea from other States
or colmntries with free persons of colour acting as mariners or
stewards or in any other employment or capacity on board,
sfich-vissel or vessels, should perform quarantine, and that
iicons be adopted to prevent such persons or colour from
c6ining into this State or from communicating with the col-
oured people of this State.
Be it therefore enactedby tMe Senateand House of Represen-
tatives of the State of Georgia in General Assembly met, and it
is hereby enacted by the authority of the same, That all ships
or vessels coming into any part of this State by sea fron
any port or place in any other State, or any foreign country,
having on board any free negro or frec person of colour clu-
ployed as a steward, mariner or in any other capacity, or asa.
passenger, shall be subject to quarantine for the space of for-
ty (lays ; nor shall it be lawfiul for any negro or person of
colour residing in this State to go on board of such ship or1
vessel while riding quarantine, or to have coumnication
with any such coloured person on board of said vessel fr
any purpose whatever while she is so riding quarantine.
Sec. ). And be it jutlher enacted, That if any free ne-
gro or person of colour, so coming in the said ship or vessel,
shall coie on shore or hnve any counnnication with any
person of colmmr reiding in this Siate. while the said ship
