thereof paying to the coinmmissioners of roads of said county the
sum of three dollars per haid, per dinnmi.
And whereas no money has ever been paid, and the slaves re-
tained from road labor to the injury of' the road.
Threfore be it enacted by the Senate and House of Representa-
tives of the State of 'v-orgii in General ./hsembly met, That from
and immediately after the passing of this act, that all the male
slaves and other persons on the island of Ossabaw from the age
of eighteen to forty-five years be compelled to perfbrmn road la-
bor in said county agreeable to the road 1.nvs governiig said
county and that the above recited act, be and the sane is hereby
repealed.

State of Georgia in General Assembly met, and it is hereby enact-
rd by the aut/writy ol the same, That from and after the pas'in of'
this act, it shall be lawfil for the owners of all slaves on the island
of Cumberland in said county and all other piersons living on
said island liable to do road duty, either to perlform road duty in
conformity to the laws now in force, or commute for the perform.
ance of the same by paying for each slave liable to work on the:
roads three dollars per year, and all other persons living on said
