TPo amend an act entitled an act for the better regulation
and government of the town of Elberton.
Be it enacted by the Senate and House of Represent-
tives of the State of Georgia in General Slssembly meli
and it is hereby enacted by the authority of the same, That
from and after the first Monday in January next, it siall
not be lawful for any person elected commissioner of said
town, in pursuance of the before recited act, to enter on the
duties of his oflice until ie shall have taken and subscribed
before one of the justices of the Inferior court or justices of
the peace for the county of Elbert, an oath well and truly
to discharge the duties of a commissioner of the town of
Elberton, according to law, and to support the constitution
of the state of Georgia and of the United States, and a cer-
tificate on the minute book of the commissioners by the per-
sons presiding at the election that the persons named are
duly elected, and a sertificate as aforesaid by such justice
that they have taken the oath aforesaid, shall be legal evi-
dence that the commissioners so elected are authorised to
act as such.
SSec. 2. Id be it further enacted, That the said
board may appoint a president and such other officers as
may be necessary, and may allow, except to those that may
be members of the board, a compensation for their servi-
ces ; they shall have power to remove such officers and ap-
point others in their stead, and to prescribe and settle all
forms and details necessary and proper to give effect to.

sioners shall have the same power as justices of the peace
now have of punishing contempts and coercing their ofli-
cers, and said officers shall remain subject to this authority
twelve months after they slhall be out of ollice. as to, any
