To amend an act entitled, an act for the better reglation and govern-
ment of the Town of Sparta, in fhp county (if Hancock, and to
amend an act amenlatory thereof, passed the 13th day of I)ecern.

le it enacted by the He'nte and House of Reprcsentiatives oJ thu'
State of Geovgia in General Assembty md, anld it is hereby Pnacted
by. the authoritU of the same, 'T'lhat tihe free inde citizens resident
within the town of Sparta, as hereloafter described, being entitled to
vote for members of the General Assembly of this state, shall be au-
thorised to elect by ballot at the i -mal place of hokling elections in
said town, live free white citizens resident and freeholders in said
town, as Comnnissioncrs of the v  e of Sparta, in the county of
Hancock ; which election ,hal b ie hed o the ist Monday of May
now next, and on the first Monday of May in every year thereafter,
between the hours of niine of the clowk ;n the inorning and two of the
clock of the evening of that day, ard shall he jper intended by three
persons, one of whom shall be a jdiwtce of the peace or of the Infe-
rior court of said county, one shall be a conmiissionur of said village,
and the other shll be any disinterested freehbler of said village, and
on thoir failure or neglect to attend, by any three freeholders of said
viliage, and shall be opened, conducted, and closed in the manner
usually practi ed in elections for county oflicers. And until such
election, the commissionets of said village now in oflice shall continue
as such, with all the power and authority and subject to tie same du-
ties as prescribed in the several acts hereby amended, and as are here-
in prescribed. And that ten days notice shall be given by the coin-
nissioners for the time being, or any two of them, by advertisements
at three or more public places in said village, and the like notice for
the clection of a commissioner or commissioners in case of vacancy
by death, resignation, or removal. Aud in all cases, the commission-
ers in oflice shall act as such until their successors shall be elected
