To after and change the name of Amos Pinkney ITutto, to Ames,
Pinkney Whitehead.
Ite it paced by the Senate and louse of 1lepresentatices of the
State vf h'orgia in General .Assenbly met, and it is hereby e acted
by the authority of the same, That from and after the passage of this
act, fle -.kii Aii.- Pimkney Iutto, sholl be called and known in law
by the name of Anmos Pinkney Whitehead.

The more eothetually to quiet and protect the possession of personal

W   ii u ai;s, a practice hath been followed by some persons having
or layin  laim to nievroes and other persoual property, to take or
cOnvOy 1way the same by violence, seduction, or otier means, or to
harbor, or otherwise take, or cause tFe same to be taken, out of the
possession of the adverse claimant without due course of law, and
offen times to remove the same out of the state, to the great it)ury
of the true owner ; and whereas, manifest injustice and many scrious,
rnis'hiefs may arise fl om such a practice, which is productive of frauds,
violence, quarrels, and bloodshed:
§ 1. Be it therefore enacted by the Senate and House of Representa.
tives of the State of Gear.-ia in General .4ssenibly met, and it is here-
by et'acted by the u:hwority of the same, That upon complaint trade
on --ali by the pe son injured, his agent, or attorr.ey, to anV Judge of
the superior or Justice of tho Inferior Court, or any Justice of the
Peace, that any negro or negroes, or other persounl chattel, have been
takenm, enticed, or canried away by fraud, violence, seduction, or other
meani, fain the possession of such deponent, or that such negroes or
other personal chattels, having beein recently in the quiet antd legally
and peacahly acquired pissession.of such neponent, have absconded
or disappearecd without his or her'consent, and as lie or -she believes
ha.e he-n h1,rbored, received, or taken possession of, by any person on.
