AN ACT
For disposing of any such negro, mulaito or person of co-
lor, who hs been or may hereafter he imported or
brought into this state, in violation of an act of the U-
nited States, entitled, an act to prohibit the, importation
of slaves into any port or place within the jurisdiction
of the United States, from and after the first day of Ja.
nuary, 1808.
BE it enacted by the Senate and House of Representa-
tives of the State of Georgia, i General Assembly met,
and it is enacted by the authority of the same, That it shall
be lawful for His Excellency the Governor, and be is
hereby authorized, to appoint some fit and proper person,
to proceed to all such ports and places within this state,
as have, or may have, or may hereafter hold, any negroes,
mulattoes or persons of color, as may have been or hereaf-
ter may be seized or condemned under the above recited
act of Congress, and who may be subject to the control of
this state, and the person so appointed shall have full
power and authority to ask, demand and recover and re-
ceive all such negroes, mulattoes, or personsof color, and
to convey the same to Milledgeville, and place them un-
der the immediate control of the Executive of this state.
§ . .Ind be it further enacted, That His Excellency the
Governor is hereby empowered to cause the said negroes,
mulattoes or persons of. color to be sold, after giving sixty
days notice in a public gazette, in such.manner as he may
think best calculated for the interest of this state.
§ 3. And be it further enacted, That if previous to any
sale of any such persons of color, the Society for Coloni.
