AN ACT
For the trial and punishment of slaves and free peoptb,
f color.
B    E i enacted by the Senate and House of Re-
yresentatives of the General .dasembly of the State of
Georgia, and it is hereby enacted by the authority of the
samne, That the following shall be considered as capital
offences, when committed by a slave or free person ofco.
lor:-insurrection, or any attempt to excite it, poisoning,
or aitempting to poison ; committing a rape, or attempt.
iig it, on a free white female ; assaulting a free white
person, w ith intent to murder or with any weapon likely
to produce death ; maiming a free while peron ;-bur-
gblry, or arson of any description, as contained in the
Penal Code of this state ;-murder of another slave, or
free person of color ;-every, and each of these oflences,
shall, on conviction ho punished with death. And if any
free person of color commits the ofience of inveigling, or
enticing away any slave, or slaves, for the purpose of,
and with the intention to aid and assist such slave or
slaves, leaving the service of his or their owner, or own-
crs, or in going to anothor state; such person so offeud-
ing shall, for each aid every such offence, on conviction,
be confined in the Penitentiary at hard labor lor one year,
and at the expiration of their imprisonment, to be sold to
the highest bidder as a slave, for and during the term of
their natural lives.
