I                  AN ACT
o prohibit Slaves from selling ertain commodities
therein mentioned.
§ 1. BE it enacted by the Senate and Ifouse of Repre..
sentatives of the State of Georgia, in General Assemz.
bly met. and it ishereby enacted by the anthority of the
same, That from and after the first (lay of Januuary next,
if any person or persons shall buy or ieceive from any
slave or slaves, any Money, Cotton, Tobacco, Wheat,
Rye, Oats or Corn, vithout a ticket authorising such
slave or slaves, to dispose of such money, specially spe-
cifying ti sum so intended to be laid out, the quantity of
Cotton, Tobacco, Wheat, Rye, Oats 0t ('orn,which such
slave or slaves may intend to dispose of, from his, herfor
their owner or overseer or overseers, as the case may
be, such person or p-ersons so oflending, shall forfeit
and pay to the informer on conviction thereof. before
any one or more Juctices of the Peace, of the district
where such crime was committed, or of the county where-
in such district may be, the sum of fifteen dollais, and
to one of the presiding Justices of the Peace, upon such
trial the further sum of fifteen dollars, to be recovered by
execution and sale in the usual and summary way of
Justices Courts together with alllegal cost for county pur-
poses, or for the use of the poor of the county where such
offence may have been committed, under the direction of
the Inferior Court of each county, where such ofrence
was committed; provided nevertheless, that where either
party may feel themselves agrieved, they or either of
them, shall be entitled to. anappeal to a Jury of said dis-
trict, which trial, and after proceeding, shall be thld and
conducted in the same way and manner as other appeal
cases are conducted before Justices of the Peace.
§ 2. .nd be itfurther enacted, That if any person,
or persons, shall purchase any of the aforesaid ar-
ticles, from any slave, or slaves, with or without a law-
ful ticket, after sun-set, and before sun-rise, or on the
'8abaih day, he, she or they, shall be held, deemed and
