An Act to amend An Act entitled  An Act.
to appoint Comnissioners, for the better
regulation and government of the Town
of Petersburg.
W      HEIIEAS the powers granted to the commis.
sioners of the town of Peterbburg, by the
afore recited act, are not sufficiently extensive for
carrying into full and complete effect, such regula.
tions as the wclfare of said town requires, and where-
as disputes have arisen relative to the commons and
limits of said town.
Src. 1. Be it enacted by the Senatc and House of
Representatives of the State of Georgia, in General
Assenbly net, and it is enacted by the authority of the
scme, That the said commissioners shall have power
to employ the county surveyor of Elbert, and with
him to survey said town, and ascertain and lay out
the commons thereunto belonging, agreeable to the-
proposals, upon which said town was settled ; and
cause a correct pint of the same to be made and re-
corded in the clerk's office of the superior court, for
oaid county.
Sic. 2. And be it further enacted, That the said
c'mmissioners shall have power, and be capable ir
law, to purchase, hold and retain to them and their
successors in office, to the use of said town, in per-
pctuity or for any term of years, any estate ical or
personal, also to lease or hire the same for any tern
niot exceeding ten years ; and to sue and be sued,
implead and be impleaded, and to answer and be in-
swered unto in any court of law or equity in this
state.
Sr.c. 3. And be itfurther enacted, That they shall
have power to make such by-laws, rules and regula-
tions, respecting the streets, public buildings and
taverns, carriages, waggons, carts, drays, pumps,
buckets, fire-engines, the care of the poor, the rCgu-
lation of disorderly people, negroes, and in general
