1835.   in the County, who shall immediately give judgement on ap-
plieation therefor, and nil fines collected as aforesaid shall bc
applied to the purposes of improving the said city.
See. 3. Bo it further enacted, That no tuxes other than Ter-
ritorial or County taxes shall be collected within the limits of
said city, after the pasiage or this act.

Ile it enacted by the Governor and Legislative Counril of
the Territory of Florida, That the Council of the City of St.
(,wer to pro- Augustine, composed of the anvor and Aldermen of said city,
fr  Lc co. -shall have power to pans all ncedrul laws and ordiances for the
ferred.    preservation and protection of groves, gardens and fruit trees,
fruit, plmants and vegetables growing, or being wit.hin the limits
of said City ; and to provide for the punishment of any tres-
pass, injury or depredation committcd upon, or iii respect to the
sa5ie or any of the same ; !)at in case of frco persons, the pen-
alty imposed shall bei a fine for nny one oflence, not exceedieg
Punishnient ten dollars, to be enrorced, with costs of prosecution, in such
.,r otences, manner as the Council of said City may by law direct.  But in
case of a S'avc, the punishment may be by stripes, for any one
olihnce, not exceeding ten : but any person having authority
over, or in any respect to such slave, may redeem him from the
infliction of stripes, by the payment of a pecuniary fine, not
exceeding torl dollars, to be assessed, made known, and paid
within such time and in such manner as the Council of said City
may by law direct and the owner or rmaster of any slave, con-
victed of such offence, shall be liable for the costs of prosecu-
tion, in such nianner as the Council of s'tid City may by lav
direct.
