An ACT for the relief of Charles E. Hawkins.
WHEREAS, upon the petition of the. grand jury, ompanneled
in, aid for the body of Munroe. county, at the last November
4peamble. term ofthe superior court for the southernjudirial district of Florida,
as well as upon the petition of the people of the, said district, for
the relief of Charles E. Hawkins, now ini* the custody of the
Marshal of the said district: And whereas, also, three terms of'
the superior court have elapsed since the aUedged comnlission of
the crime, for which lie is now in custody, and that by the shew-
lug of the said peititions, lie can never, be tried in the skai dlistrict,
because the citizens when summoned.asJ.rymen, hi the said case,
generally answer on oath, that they believe the said Charles E.
Hawkins ought to be acquitted.---And. whereas, his further con-
tinuancein custody, under die circumstances of the case, would
in all probability amount to. perpetual imprisonment, in violation
of the liberty of the citizen, whdse fair and, speedy trial is guar-
anteed by the Constitution. Qf the United States, and the great
expense of his confinement, already aniounting to the sum of,
near sixteen hundred dollars, and which,will be greatly increased
by the detention of; the said Charles E; Hawking in custody:
C.   .      Now therefore be it enacted by-l.  Governor. and Legislative
kin  rlas. Council of tie Territory of 1lorida, That the said Charles E.
