AN ACT
To prevent Fire ]luntig
Ie it enacted by the Governor and Le islative Councilt
qfthe Territory of Florida, That it shall not be lawful
fbr any persor or persons to hIunt with a gun by fire in
the ,ight time, at any place within this territory west
of the Suwannee river, except within his own enclo-
Vire huing sures; and any person convicted thereof before anyjus-
,rohibitcd  tic of the peace of the county wherein the offence was
conitted, by the oath of one. or more credible wit-
iJesscs, shall forfeit and pay for every such offence not
exceeding five dollars, to be recovered with costs by
warrant of the justice before whom the conviction shall
be Ihad at the discretion of the justice,-one half for the
use of the counly in which the suit may l'd brought, and
the other half for the use of the person suing for the
same; and in case any person or persons so convicted
shall refuse or neglect to pay such line, it. shall be the
duty of the justice before whom he or they shall have
been convicted, to commit such person or persons to
the jail of the county whE re the offence shall have been
committed, there to remain, without bail or mainprize,
any term not less than one day, or more than three
months.
Sec. 2. Be it further enacted, That if any person hunt-
ing with fire light in the night time, shall kill or wound
Double dam. any horse, mare, colt, neat cattle, sheep, goat orhog,
ages to bere or other domestic animal, not ocing his own, the person
covered .  so offending shall be liable to an action at law for double
the value of said animal to the person aggrieved, in ad-
dition to the above penalties.
Sec. 3. Be itfirther enacted, That if any slave or
Slaves fe  slaves shall be discovered fire hunting in manner afore-
hunting    said, such slave or slaves, on conviction thereof, in
manner aforesaid, before any justice of the peace for
the county wherein the offence may have been corn-
initted, shall, by order of the said justice, receive not
