AN ACT
For the punilshment of slaves, for violations of the penal laws of this
Territory.
1. Be it enacted by the Governor and Legislative Coun- Slaves how tried.

ces slaves shall be indicted, tried and punished in the
same manner as white persons, in the circuit courts of
each county in this Territory.
2. Be it further enacted, That, for te crimes of mur- Capitaloffences.

rebelling against their masters, any slave or slaves being
thereof convicted, shall be deemed guilty of felony with-
out the benefit of clergy, and shall stffer death.
