State ot Maryland a certain negro slave named

AN ACT relating to fugitives from labour.,
SECTION 1. BE IT ENACTED. by the Senate Runaway
and House of Representatives ofthe State of Da- r0o
war e, in General Assembly   mct, I hat when aotherstates-v
person helid to Libour or service in any of the Uni.
ted States or in either of the Territories thereof, un-
der the laws thereof, slh~ escape into this state, the
lerson to whom such labour or service is due, hisunder what
. ~Process, and
or her agent or atttorney is hereby authorized to ap-by whrn to
ply to an judge or justice of any court of rcord, orbe arrested:
to any jusice of the peace or to any burgess of a
Borough or Town corporate, who on such applica-
tion, supported by the oath or affirmation of such
climant, agenA or attorney that said fugitive hath
escaped from his or her servict or from the service
of the person for whom he is agent or attorney, shall
grant his warrant, 'under his hand aind seal and direc-
ted to any sheriff <r constabl,. authorizing and enm-
powering said sheriff or constable to seize and arrest
the said fugitive, who shall be named in said warrant,
and to bring said fugitive before said officer issuing
said warrant, or before some other judge or justice of
a court of record, or some justice of the peace, or bur-
gess of a borough or town corporate; which said war-
rant shall be in the form or to the cff.ct following, viz:
