1WH EREA S, it has been represented to this Ge- Preamble,
neral Assembly, by the trustees of the town of Lew.
es, that there are, in the hands of one or more per-
sons at Lewes, about one thousand dollars, recei-
ved for services performed by the troops there du-
ring the late war, in saving the cargoes of a schoo-
tier called the Anna Maria, and of a bchooner called
the Adolphus: And whereas, the taxables of Lew-
es are subjected to the payment of taxes, on ac-
count of money expended in cutting a canal to im-
prove Lewes creek, and for rebuilding a bridge o-
ver said creek, which is a public bridge used by
-the people without toll:-
SECTION 1. BE IT THEREFORE ENACTED by
the Senate and House of Representatives oJ the
State of Delaware, in General Assembly met, That
