To declare void certain judgments, and to grant now
trials in certain cases theein mentioned, and to re-
peal sections 2876 and 2677, of the Revised Code of
Alabana.
SEciwO 1. Be it enacted by the General Assembly Of~ndgnlnts in.
Alabama, That in all cases wherein judgments haveoperativn.
been rendered on penal statutes, where the object was
declared in the statuto to assist in carrying on the late
war against the United States, such judgments be, and
the same are hereby declared inoperative.
Se. 2. Be it furthcr enacted, That in all cases wheroNew trial.
judgments or decrees have been rendered since the first
day of January, 1 S65, to this late, the party against
whom such judgment or decrees have been obtained,
shall be entitled to a new trial, upon allidavit showing
a meritorious defense ; Provided, That the court shall
be satislied, from  ill the facts that may be submitted
by both parties, that a good and meritorious defense
exists; and provided application shall be made within
twelve months from   the passage of this act ; that all
judgments rendered in any of the courts of this State,
against defendants where the consideration was for the
purchase money or hire of a slave or slaves, are hereby
declared to be null and void.
SEc. 3. Be it further enacted, That in all cases where
judgments or decrees for money have been rendered, by Application to
any of the courts of this State, prior to the 25th day of Judge.

shall be entitled to have the same opened and a new
trial granted, on application to the judge of the court
having jurisdiction, in term time or in vacation.
Sic. 4. Be it further enacted, That if any judgment Judgmentnull
