To increase the fees now allowed by law for apprehend-
ing and committing to jail runaway slaves.

SECTION 1. Be it enacted by the Senate and House oRep-
resentatives of the State of Alabama .in General Assembly
convened, That for apprehending and commiting a runa- Fee for taking.
way slave V jail, or. for delivering him.to his'owner, the
san of ton d ollars shall be allowed, instead of six as noW
provided by law. And for taking a runaway siavo to jail,
the porson performing such service 'shall bo entitled to ustago.
fifteen cents per mile, in going to and returning from the
jail,'and to a like compensation when. the slavo. is deliv.
ered to hismaster or overseer, instead of .ten cents per
mile as is now provided. And the Justice of the Peace jusc-S roo.
shall beallowed for his sorvioes the sum  of one dollar
and a litdf in lieu of sevefity-ive cents now! allowed.
