.No. 78.]              AN ACT
To incrcaso the duties of oveseers of public roads, and
to prevenit parties from joining fences to public bridges.
SECTION 1. Be it enctILed by 1te Senate ad  ihuse of Rep
resentatives of the State of Alabama in General Asnbly
Overmoor to 1ol convened, That when bridges on public roads become

*     of the overseer on fle road on which such bridge oi
- bridges are located, to keep the ford in order, if depmed
practicable by the supervisor, wind for a failuro to dis-
charge this duty, be shall. be guilty of a misdomeanor.
SEc. 2. 'e it further. enacted, 'That it shiall not be law-

the court of county connissioners, w 'ich must be obtain-

the said oversecr shill receive the same fees for such

Provided, there is no constable in the boat in wlhiich such
jrocess is issued Ly the Justice of the Peace.
SEc. 2. Be it further enacted, That a notice to th
Wutie toonr. overseer of any slave liable to work on any public road iii
eor oNer   this State, as provided for by section 1166 -of the Code,
shall be 11 notice to the owner of such slave as effectually
as if the notice was served on such owner in person
and if each slave fail to attend at the timo and place
and with tho tools mentioned by said notice, judgment
