[No. 322.]            AN ACT'
Defning the duty of justices of thi. peace in relation to
patrols-in the county of Chambere.
SEC. 1. Be i: enacted by the Senate and House of Re-
presentatives of the State of Alabama in Genei al Assembly
convened, That hereafter it shall be the duty of the justi-
Appointmlentrces of the peace in and for the county of Chambers, State
is reulof  Alabama, to appoint patrol detachment or. detachments
in each of their respective beats only when said justices
as. aforesaid shall deem it necessary to do so, or when,
upon the information of any citizen or citizens of said beat,
that there is about to be or is at the time of said applica--
tion an unlawful assemblage of negroes then together or
about to take place, or that they apprehend the same; and
upon said information, it shall be the duty of the justice or
the peace of said beat as aforesaid forthwithto order out a
patrol detachment.or detachments under the laws now re-
gulating the same; and that the said patrol detachment or
detachments, as the case may be, only be required to per-
form patrol duty for such term of time as the said justice
in his judgment may think the etmergency of the case may
require; andihat the leader of said patrol detachment be
required to pake his retura to the justice of the peace in
the beat where such appointment be made, at the expira-
tion of the term of lime for which he may have been ap-
pointed. All laws in contraventiouwof this act be and the
game are hereby repealed.

To establish justices' courts in the county of Hancock.and
to regulate the proceedings therein.
Sac. 1. Be it enacted by the Senate and House of Re-
presentatives of the State of Alabama in General Assembly
convened, rhat from and after the passage of this act, the
Monhircourts.jstices of the peace in the comity of Hancock shall meet
at the muster-ground in each i'nd every beat in said county
and shall hold a court once a month, to be holden on. a day
to sruit the convenience of the said jrstices .of the peace.
