To anthorise the appointment of guardians at law for free
persons of color.
Sco. 1. Be it enacted by the Senate and House of A(presen-
tatives of the Iate o!f labaia in General AIssenbly convened,
That from and after the passage of this act, it shall be law.  e gua
(nl for the judge of probate of the several counties, on any appoiam for
application and proper showing made to such judge, to ap- P. re
point a guardian for any free person of color of this State,
whether over or under the age of twenty-one years, and to
require such person as may be appointed as such to enter
into bond, with good security to the said judge, conditioned
to faithiflly take charge of and faithfully account for all
such effects, goods and moneys of such free person as may
come to his possession, and pay and deliver the same over to
such free person of color, if of age. whenever demanded
by him; or, if tinder age, as he may be ordered by the
court, and shall account to the court and be liable as other
guardians.
SEC. 2. And bie ilfarter eaacted, That the person appoint- P Wr guar-

thorised to bring suits, as such guardian, for any cause of
action which does or may ixist in behalf of such free per-
son of color ; any law, usage, or custom to the contrary

To create a clerkship in the comptroller's office.
Srx  1. Be it enacted by the Senate and House of R,
presenttatives of the State of Alabama in General.Issembly
convened, That it is hereby made lawful for the comptroller com'.may ap.
