where it may come to the knowledge of the Court granting
letters testamentary, that the estate is likely to be wasted
to the prejudice of the heirs or any of thon, it shall be the
duty of such Court to require bond and security to be giv-
en as now provided by law.

Section 1. Be i/ enacted by the Senate 'and House of
Representalives qf the S/ate of .12labama, in General
.Assembly convened, That if any master, owner. overseer P..n v CIr p r-
or other person having the management and control of any    
slave. shall permit such slave to go at large, or shall per- .
mit such slave to jhIiro,of such owner, or other person
having the management thereof, his. her or their lime:
or if any such person shall permit siuch slave to lire
his, her or their time or services, to any other person,
all persons so offending may be indicted for a mrisderneai-
or,, and upon conviction, he fited in a sun not I ss
than five, or morn, than one hundred dollars, at the
discretion ofthe jury trying the same: P'rovided, that the
proper authorines of any corporate city or towk, in this
State, may grant license or permission to owners of slaves
to allovatheir slaves to work out and hire their time bythe
day.
