[No. 42.]            AN ACT
To prevent frauds &c. in sampling cotton, and for other pur-
poses.
Section 1. Be it enacted by the Senate pnd House of
Ieinesentatives of the State of /1/abani.a, in General
.issembly c-nvened, That ifanv lierson shall cut, ter, or
renn:'y ror in,. otherwise open any bale or bag of cotton, under any pre-

A  ir st .snt of the owner, aretlt or Cotino0 of Sulhi c0'to,
the person or persons so offending shall be guilty of a mis-
deneanor, and may be indicted therefor, and upon convic-
tion shall be find in a sum not less thatl 1on nor mori. than
one thousand dollars, at the discretion of th Jury trying
the same, one half of which fine shall go to the person in-
forminig and the other half to the county in which the of-
fenceo is tried.
Sec 2. Ind be it .further enacted, That if any person

shall buy or recvive any cotton taken from any bag or
iinty no tu bale without the consent ofthe owner, as provided for in

guilty of receiving stblen goods, itd upoi -onviction shall
be punished as iuiothor cases of receiving stblqn goods.
