JOINT RESIOLUTION
In relation to a part of Section Sixteen, Township Seventee-i, Range
Four, Easl, in Marengo Counly.
Be it enacle.d b# the Senate and- House of Representatives of the
State of .11abaa, in General .Jssembly convened,. That the contract
of purchase of the soith west quarter of section sixteen, in town-hip
seventeen, in range four, east, i  Mirengo county, between John H. Ray,
late of said cout, deceased, ani the commissioners of said sixteenth
Section, by, and with the consent of a majority of the white male inhab-
itants of said township over the age oi' tweity-one, years, and of the ad-
iniiistrator or execultor of said John H1. Ray, deceased, and the other co-
makers of the nite, may be rescinded and set-aside : Probided, that the
consent ol said inhabitants as aforesaid be asccruiined by an election, to
be publicly held by slil com i issioners at some place, in said township,
after twenty day's notice of the time and place of such election, posted
up in three or more public places in said township : Andprovided also,
that no money that may have been heretofore paid in virtue of said con-
tract, shall be refi nded.

JOINT RESOLUTIONS

Whereas, in the month of DecenIber, A. D., eighteen liilidred and
forty, on account of' an appreeded insurrection of the slave popila-
tion in and near the town of Demopolis, in Mailetgo counly, the
Quarter Master General, with the concurrence of the Governor of this
State, for warded to that plaLce frotm the State Arsenal at Tuscaloosa,
about eighty musIkets, with cartridge boxes, boyontos, &c , without re-
(luiring the exeention of any legal boid for their return: And whereas,
also, said muskets, &c., havinrg been distribitted to the citizets of said
town and its vicinity, remained thus seattered, until the summer of'
eighteen litindred and forty five, whom the greater part of the same
wevre collected by William HI. Roberts, of said town : 3ut whereas,
also, said muskets, &e., aro subject to continiual inj ry for the want of
proper care and skill for their preservation: Therefore,
Be it r-esolved by the Senate and House of Representatives of the
State of labama, in General assembly convened, That tle Quarter
Mastor General be, and he is hereby directed and required, either by
himself, or by properly authorized agent, to proceed forthwith to the
said town of Demopolis, and to take charge of such of said muskets,
cartridge boxes, bayonets, &c., as remain and can be procured, and to
have the same returned to the State Arsenal at Tuscaloosa.
