To raise a Revenue for the support of the State Government, and
to maintain the faith and credit of the State of Alabama.
Section 1. Be it enacted by the Senate and House of Rep-
resentatives of the State of  lab(tma in Geieral .ssemblll
convened, That all lands within this State liable to taxation, shall
be divided into four classes:-Lands of the first quality or class, Landclassed.
shall be valued at sixteen dollars per acre; of the second class,
at ten dollars; of the third class, at four dollars; and of Ihe fourth
class, at one dollar and twenty-five cents per acre: and the
owner, or person giving in the same, shiallstate on call, the classcinsq tiownF.
to which he or she believes his or her lands belong. and all lands certained.

collector, as the case may be, of the County wherein the same
may lie.
Sec. 2. .'ad be it further enacted, That where, by reason of
proximity to a city or town, or navigable water course, any ofvbeno
the iands liable to taxation shall he of greater value than the vahlul, and
class to which, by the foregoing section of this bill, they would 11w useel-
he properly assigned, then such lands, so increased in value, shall aual.
le taxed at their value, to he estinmated by the owner or person
giving in the same, on oath; and whenever such lands shall not
be given in for taxation, or if the assessor shall believe that the
same have not been valued suoicienily high, he shall proceed to
have the same valued, as prescribed by the existing law.
Sec. 3. .dad be itfurthcr enacted, That there shall be levied 'a on Land.
and collected, upon all lands subject to taxation in this State,
twenty cents for every hundred dollvrs' value thereof, to be as-
certained  as rforesaid; upon  all lots or buildings, in any  city  orj,,s,.
corporate toe n, twenty cents upon each hundred dollars' value
thereof, to be ascertained by the person giving in the satne, on
oath; and if the owner of such lots or buildings shall fail or re-
fuse to give in the same, then it shall be the duty of the assesser
