To incorporate the Town of G:eonville, in the couhty of Butter, and for other
purposes.
Section 1. Re it enacted by the Senate and Hlouse of Repre-
sentatives of the State of Alabama, in General Assetably con-
vened, That from and after the passage of this act, the town of
Town incor. Greenville, in the county of'Butler, he, and the same is hereby
porated.*  incorporated ; that the corporate limits of !ki town shall extend
two hundred yards north, cast and sond, and eight hundred
yards west of the courthouse, in said town, inclusive.
Sec. 2. dnd be it further enacted, That John BoIling, Alex-
ander McKellar and John K. Henry, or a majority of them,
Election.  shall hold, at the courthouse in said town, on the second Satur-
day in March next, an election, between the hours of ten A. M.
and four P. M:, for the purpose of electing five persons, inhab-
itants of said town, one of whom shall act as Intendant, the
others to act as Councillors, thereof; a majority of wihom  shall
constitute a quorum, to do business.
Sez. 3. ./Ind be it further enacted, That on the first Monday
in January next, and on that (lay every succeeding year, the
Vlow ield  sheriff of Butler county shall cause to he held an election for
hereafter.  Intendant and Councillors, after having given ten days' notice in
three of the most public places in said town; which said election
shall he managed by three discreet persons, selected by the she-
riff aforesaid: and in said election, every free white male of
twenty-one years of age, who has resided in said town two
months next preceding said election, shall he entitled to vote,
by ballot, for the officers aforesaid: Provided, that if the sheriff
should fail to hold an election, as herein directed, at the time
appointed herein, it shall be his duty to advertise, in three of
the most public places in said town, setting forth the time, (not
exceeding ten days,) at which he will hold an election for In-
tendant and Councillors for said town.
Sec. 4. .12nd be it further enacted, That the said Intendant
and Councillors shall take oaths required of all civil officers in
Intendnnt and this State, and an oath to discharge, without favor or partiality,
bU sworn.  the duties imposed hy this act. That the Intendant of said cor-
poration shall, ex-oicio, have and possess all the powers of a
justice of the peace: Provided, that he shall first take the oaths
Proviso.  required of other justices of the peace, and give the like bond
and security: 1nd provided further, his juritdiction, in all
civil cases, shall not extend beyond the limits of said town, un-
less the contract upon which suit is brought, shall have been
made and entered into there.
Sec. 5. And be it further enacted, That the Intendant and
Powers. Councillors be, and they are hereby declared to be a body cor-
porate  and in the name of Intendant and Councillore of Green-
ville, shall be known, and shall sue and be sued, grant, receive,
