To organize and establish Patrol Laws for the County of 1Baldwin.
Srction 1. Be it enacted by the Senate and House of Rcpresen-
latives of the State of A11labama, in Generald.ssenbly convened,
Court to ap. That the judge of the county court of 3aldwin county, and the
ipoint uar.  commissioners of roads and revenue for said county, shall at their
* t,     regular meetings, on the first Monday in February, in each alid
every year, after the passage of this net, appoint a marshal of
patrol, in each beat in said county, who shall serve under the
first appointment, for one year and three months, from the first
Monday in February next, and afterwards to serve for tite space
of one year, estimating the time for three months after their ap-
pointment, when they shall enter upon their duties; the marshal
appointed, as aforesaid, shall appoint four deputy marshals, within
Drputies.  his beat,and divide the slaveholders, and all others liable to do mili-
tary duty, in each beat, into four equal squads, each to be under the
conunand of a deputy marshal; and the said squads, thus divided,
shall do patrol duty, according to the established law, alternate
weeks or months, as the inarshal shall or'- and direct.
Sec. 2. .'Jnd be it further enacted, Th  each and every slave-
Who liable to holder, and all others liable to perform military duty within each
duly.     boat in said county, shall be liable to serve one year in every
three years, either as marshal or deputy marshal; and shall fur-
ther he liable to an indictment for not serving as such, or for omis-
sion of duty, and be fined in a sum not less than twenty-five
nor more than fifty dollars, to be assessed by the jury trying the
same.
Sec. 3. And be it further enacted, That the persons composing
Penalty for the squads, who shall fail to attend and perform patrol duty, when
nelect.  summoned, either by special or gencral appointment of the deputy
marshal, shall be fined in the sum of two dollars each, to be re-
covered before any justice of the peace, in aod for said county of
B3aldwin, at the suit of the marshal of the beat, in which the de-
linquency may occur.
Sec. 4...'nd be it f/rther enacted, That it shall be the duty
of clerk, of the marslial to make out a report, and transmit the same to the
Dutyo     clerk of the circuit court, to be held next after his appointment,
the names of the deputy marshals in his beat, and the number of
men belonging to each squad; and it ilall his duty to notify the
deputy narshalsi of their appointments, and the names of the men
composing their squals. together with the directions in what order
each squad is to serve, which notice shall be in writing; and it
shall furthermore, he the duty of the marshal of each beat to re-
port all delinquencies of deputy marshals to each session of the
circuit court to be held in and for the county of Baldwin.
Sec. 5. .1lnd be it firther enacted, That it shall be the duty of
Reports.  the clerk of the circuit court, to liy before the grand jury, at each
and every court, the reports of the different marshals appointed
