Section 1. Be it enacted by the Senate and House oJ Rep.
resentatives of the Sute of Alabama in General Asseibly
convened, That Simon howdon oi the county of Pickens, be S utwdon,
andi he is hereby authorized to manumit and ('manci atte a mnthormed
certain boy lale , nanttd Peter , the property of the said Si-  el't1elm
Ion iowd.tn, from and after he seventh day ofJanury, Ill taina slave
the year of our Lord, one thoumsand eight hundred and forty
seven lnextensuing; s tving however, to creditors and claim- Hightsof
ants all their just rights, and provided, that the baid Simon c ts
Bowdon enter into bond in the sum of five hundred dollars,  to'be
with security to be ippro edof by the Judge of the County
Court ofJPickens county, conditioned, that the said slave
shall not become chatgable to any county, city, or town of
this state which bond shall be filed in the office of the clerk
of the county court of solid county.
Sec. 2. And be itfirther enacted, That the said boy Pe-
ter shall hereafter be denominated and known by the name
of Peter Lewis Bowdon.          Approved, January 22, 1829.
