Dear Mr. Chaney:
Attorney General Mike Moore has received your request for
an official opinion from this office and has assigned it to me
for research and reply. As attorney for the Board of Trustees
of the Vicksburg-Warren School District you submit the
following inquiry:
In regard to the maintenance of
private roads and driveways for
school bus turnarounds as set forth
in Miss. Code Ann. Section 19-3-42
(Supp. 1988) the School District
has been requested to provide
written easements and to erect
signs identifying each area as a
school bus turnaround.
Does the School District have any
legal authority to expend school
funds in purchasing or constructing
road signs identifying school bus
turnarounds?
The authority to perform work on roads or driveways to
private residences used for school bus turnarounds is set
forth in Mississippi Code Annotated Section 19-3-42 (Supp.
1988) as follows:
OFFICE OF THE ATTORNEY GENERAL
STATE OF MISSISSIPPI
