I apologize for starting a little bit late, We are not perfectly well organized, and also we understand that the traffic, as usually happens in Washington, is bad and some people were delayed in arriving. I am very pleased to welcome you today. As Acting Chairman of the Council of Economic Advisers, I am deeply honored to welcome you to this significant symposium sponsored by the President's Advisory Committee on the Economic Role of Women. Today's topic, advancing women in industry, is a most timely one. The moving force behind the establish- ment of this advisory committee has been Herbert Stein, and at this moment Herb is somewhere out over the Atlantic on his way to meetings in Nairobi, meetings of international monetary funds.
