  New Frners Anr)nd the W~ol wil be the ous
of the WBA's upcoming Showcase Program, to be held
Tuesday, January 29,1991 at The Watergate Hotel. The
program will highlight emerging international legal and
business career opportunities tor women.
  The world has chantgedl dramatically in recent
months, and the wide-ranging ramifications for the
practice of law are still being defied. One thn that i
alreay clear is that these are tunes of-unparalleled
opportuity for U.S. lawyers. Attorneys with specialties
in cormmunications law, transpoartation law, securiies
law, environment  law, litigation and mny other
fields-who have never before conidere themslves
internationa attorneys--now fin their expertise in
demand from Centra Europe and the Soviet Union to
Africa, South America and beyond. The upcming
WBA program will ait participats in identifying
such intentional opportunities


   Three workshops ae pla    to explore ways to
extend a career internationally. Raimakg Around
the  Wor'l will address the development of
international busines, including consideration of key
counies and legal specialties that hold prmise for
grow in the 19 X~. Panelists on this topic will include
Sarah Cary, a partner at Steptoe & Johnson in D.C.,
who ha developed a nationaly reogmze international
tranatonal practice with an emphasis on the Soviet
Union and Cantral Europe, and Judith Bello, a pare
in the D.CQ office of Sitley & Austin, who ha helped
to build that firm's sophisticate internationa trade
practice.
   Alerative Use tor Your Law Degree will
focus on ways to us a legal career as a stepping stone
into international b-siness and public service positions.

WBA HOLIDAY PARTY A GREAT SUCCESS


  The cafeteria of the Francis School was packed
the evening of December 4, as 160 homeless chit-
dren, 200 tutors and dozers of WBA members and
their [amilies and guest gathered for the WBA's

1990 loliday Party, which benefited Project
Northstar, the Homeless Tutorial Project. The
evening began with a party for the children and their
tutors, featurng festive decorations and special
holidy refreshment. Members of the WBA Com-
munity Projects Committee which sponsored the
event, distributed treat bags and gifts donated by
WBA members.
  Also in attendance at the party was Jeff Bostic,
the Washington Redskin, who signed autographs for
the children. Other entertainment included a clown
and Santa, who posed [or photos with the children.
  At 8:00 p.m., approximately 40 WBA members
ad their guests adjourned to the Shaw, Pittman,
Potts & Trowbnidge Conmference Center for a private
one-hour reception. WBA members exchangedl
seasons' greetings with old and new WBA friends,
as they enjoyed an impressive assortment of home
