The Reagan Administration and Women
      On November 23, WBA     sponsored a
 pane on The Reagan Administration and
 rn    s  Issues  at  the  DuPont  Plaza
 Hotel.  Participants on the panel were
 tewart B. Oneglia, Chief of the Coordi-
 nation and Review Section of the Civil
 Rights livision  at  the  Department  of
 Justice,  and  Thel'a   Duggin,  Special
 Asistant to the President and Director
 of the 50 States Project.

      WBA  had  asked Elizabeth   Hanford
Dole to represent the Reagan Adminis-
tration, but she was unable to make a
firm commitment, WHA then asked Theima
Duggir, Director of the 50 States Pro-
ject, and Dee Jepsen, Special Assistant
to   the  President  for  Public  Liaison
(Womren' s Issues), to  represent Dole's
office on the panel.    Jepsen delcined.

present her point of view, However, the

limited to the 50 States Project.

      Ms.  Duggin  said  the   50  States
Project was established in 1981 as a
result of a carrpaign promise by Presi-
dent Reagan,   Thle White House is cur-
rer$1y working on legislation which will
correct   problems   identified   through
sthattutory searches° All but six states
ha~ve done  statutory  searches.   Duggin
cited   Maryland  and   Pennsylvania   as
states which have demonstrated a great
deal of interest in and support for the
50 States Project. She noted that the
50 States Project is asking states to
ocok at sex discrimination in statewide
prograrr  as  well   as  statutes.   When
asked  what her personal    reaction  was
when    P resi dent  Reagan     sent    a
congratulatory   telegram    to   Phyllis
Schaf Icy on  the  defeat  of   the  ERA,
Duggin said she has been very pleased
with the support the President has given
to the 50 States Project,     When asked

January Meeting: Women in Congress
      The Women's Bar Association of the
District   of  Columbia   will  hold   its
January  monthly   meeting  on  Wednesday,
January 26, 1983. (Please note that this
date is changed from the usual Tuesday
due to the speech by the President on
January 25,) The keynote speakers will
be two dynamic Members of the U.S House
f Representatives' the Hon, Geraldine A.
Ferraro (Democrat--9th Dist., N.Y.) and
the Hon. Claudine Schneider (Republican
--2nd Dist., R.I.).     The meeting will
cmnence   in Room   2237  of the Rayburn
House Office Building (South Capitol and
Independence Avenues) with a wine      and
hors d'oeuvres buffet (6-7 P.M.) followed
by the program (7-8:30 P.M.). Reserva-
tions and payment must be made in ad-
vance, since no money can be exchanged at
the meeting. New members of the District
of ColuLmbia Bar will be honored at the
meeting.
