       CIA SECURITY BENEFITS

On Wednesday, March 20, 1975, the Supreme Court unanimously
held that it is unconstitutional for the Social Security Adminis-
tration to grant benefits to widows but not to widowers. Tis
means that women wage-earners now get the same protection for
their survivors as men do, thus benefiting men, women and children
as all equal rights do in the long run.

I I I. 2W DAY

A more meaningful celebration of Law Day than speeches by
lawyers aising themselves or their fellow lawyers is described
by your ditor's classmate at the University of Michigan Law

from the Micgan State Bar Journal, Volume 53, June 1974, No.

ists, has for several years commemorated Law Day by providing
speakers to high schools in the two counties. For 1974, however,
we really went out on a limb. After much discussion, our member-
ship agreed that each of us was to set aside May 1 for free legal
consultation - an offer of 15-minute conferences at no charge to
any resident of the two counties.

LWe requested and received State Bar approval of the project,
with authorization to advertise the availability of free legal
consultation as long as all of our practicing members participated
and any advertising was done in the name of the association.

L<ocal newspapers and radio and television stations gave us
