Wihins ) Editors Telephones 544-6933 January 1970 WRA ENDORSES WOMR FOR SUPREME COURT APIA T NTR WBA at its November 1969 membership meet- ing voted to endorse and sponsor Congress- woman Martha W. Griffiths, (Dem., Michigan) for appointment to the United States Supreme Court. President Lee B. Anderson sent a letter to the President of the United States and to the Attorney General of the United States urging rso Griffiths' nomination to fill the existing vacancy on the Court. The letter pointed out that Mrs. Griffiths has served in the U.S. Congresis since 1955, and has served as a member of various important committees of Congress; that at present she is a member of the Ways and Means Committee and Chairman of the Sub-Committee on Fiscal Policy of the Joint Economic Com- mittee. Before her election to Congress JeMs. Griffiths was in private law practice in Detroit, and she served as a city judge in Detroit, chigan. The letter informed the President and the Attorney General that WBA members feel that the time is ripe for the women of our country to have a voice in the Judicial decision-making of our highest court. Local newspapers carried stories or this WBA endorsement. We were glad to hear that the National Asscciation of Wnmen Lawyers, a.d the National Federation of Business and Profesonal Women's Clubs, also endorsed ,rs. Griffiths for the Supreme Court vacarcy.
