NOVEMBER 1966

As a tribute to the late Judge Allen and because
we feel a profound personal loss in her death,
this issue is dedicated to her memory which
shall live forever in the annals of American
jurisprudence. WBA as early as 1934 recog-
nized her professional capabilities by endorsing
her appointment to the United States Court of
Appeals, 6th Circuit, and again in 1939 by en-
dorsing her for appointment to the Supreme Court
of the United States.

Tributes to Judge Allen have been made by
President Johnson, legislators, jurists, pro-
fessional organizations, personal friends, and
countless other distinguished persons throughout
the world. Excerpts of some of these tributes
hereinafter appear.

Telegram from President Johnson

The life of Judge Florence Ellinwood Allen is an eloquent tribute to the highest
traditions of American justice. Her death is an untimely blow to the land she
loved and served so well. But her legacy is for all of us a living and lasting re-
minder of the greatness of her work.

'In sadness and in sympathy Lady Bird and I join with you and with the many
friends who mourn her loss. We share in spirit the burden of your sorrow, and
we pray that God may bless you throughout this difficult time.
