                     AMENDED MINUTES OF THE
       WOMEN'S BAR ASSOCIATION FOR THE DISTRICT OF COLUMBIA
                    BOARD OF DIRECTORS MEETING
                        DECEMBER 17, 1996

     The meeting was called to order at approximately 6:30 p.m.
by President Nancy Long. Those present at the meeting included
Ellen Berick, Nancy Long, Victoria McEneney, Julie Heflin, Pat
Apfelbaum, Mary Kate Whalen, Loretta Garcia, Juliana Schulte
O'Reilly, Susan Swiatek and WBA Executive Director Lora Pollari-
Welbes.

     Erica Plave and Celia Goldman attended part of the meetinga
and spoke before the Board.

     Charles Hobbs of the Committee in Support of the DC Bar
Library also attended part of the meeting and spoke before the
Board.

I. MINUTES

     The Board minutes for November 19, 1996, were approved as
amended.

II. REPORT OF THE PRESIDENT AND THE EXECUTIVE COMMITTEE
     (Nancy Long)

     Nancy Long reported that the Executive Committee had
endorsed Penny Mastroianni for the Bea Rosenberg Award. Juliana
O'Reilly suggested maintaining an ongoing file for possible
nominees for subsequent awards.

III. TASK FORCE ON PART-TIME ARRANGEMENTS
      (Celia Goldman and Erica Plave)

      Celia Goldman and Erica Plave presented a proposal for
formation of a task force to survey and analyze part-time working
arrangements in the D.C. area. They distributed preliminary
survey for proposed distribution to all WBA members for use by
the task force to identify the number of members who work part-
time. The survey also provides a space for names of non-members
who work part-time.

     The task force is a collaborative effort with Katherine
Klein of the University of Maryland's Department of Psychiatry,
along with her graduate students. The hope of the Task Force is
that Ms. Kein's collaboration will add credibility to the
project, may provide financial support in the form of a partial
