         WOMEN'S BAR ASSOCIATION OF THE DISTRICT OF COLUMBIA
                                 BOARD MEETING
                                 FEBRUARY 17, 1998

       WBA President Saundra Brown called the meeting to order at 6:40 p.m. In attendance
were: Saundra Brown, Nancy Long, Julie Heflin, Vicky McEneney, Elaine Lubin, Michelle
Gary, Cynthia Goode, Kathy Ellis, Mary Kate Whalen, Pat Apfelbaum, Mary Clark, Lori
Prencipe (Lawyers at Home Forum), Karyn Ryan (IP Forum), and Executive Director Jackie
Pumpaly.

I.     Approval of the Minutes (Saundra Brown)

       The Board approved the minutes of the December 1997 and January 1998 Board
meetings without amendment.

II.    Report from Committee/Forum Chairs

       Lawyers at Home Forum

       Lori Prencipe reported that this year's showcase will have the theme, women lawyers
changing the face of the law, and will be held at AU. Judith Areen, Marcia Greenberger, and
Pat Wald will speak. There will be a reception from 6 p.m. until 7:30 p.m., followed by the
program from 7:30 p.m. until 9:15 p.m. It will be held during Founders Week. Catering will
cost $9.50 per person. AU law students must be pre-registered.

       As for the showcase budget, the estimated attendance is increased from 160 to 225. It is
based on last year's showcase numbers. They are requiring that AU kick-in the beverages.

       The Board approved the Amended Budget for the April 1, 1998 Showcase Program.

       Intellectual Property (Karyn Ryan)

       Karyn Ryan discussed the progress of the IP Forum. It has a core group of members, a
loyal following, and has had well-attended programs. The members of the forum look to the
WBA for a sense of community in this very male-oriented field.

       As for the IP Forum's February 26 program, Saundra reported that the budget was
approved by the Executive Committee. There is a memorandum of understanding between the
underwriters and WBA, which includes Howrey and Simon, Icon Office Solutions,
LEXIS/NEXIS, and Finnegan Henderson ($800.00 per entity). There is also a memorandum of
understanding between the WBA and the D.C. Bar regarding publicity. The WBA will provide
1500 copies of the publicity material to the D.C. Bar and they will circulate. There is a contract
